On her pansy eyes:

“Yet marked I where the bolt of Cupid fell.
It fell upon a little western flower,
Before, milk-white, now purple with love’s wound,
And maidens call it ‘love-in-idleness.’”
—A Midsummer Night’s Dream

"The Sting of Love" digital painting wherein a dark-haired fairy with pansy ‘love-in-idleness’ irises gawks at a bee on her forehead. The spiteful stinger creeps its mischievous way towards a floral-fused, anatomical heart embraced by her pink lock of hair. First inspired by Edvard Munch’s The Scream, "The Sting of Love" is a surrealist portrait from FAYBEL's original fairytale The Tin Princess.

The original kiu-fae with daisy irises from FAYBEL's unpublished fairytale The Tin Princess.

"Kiu" was devised to capture an authentic watercolor and colored pencil aesthetic in the digital medium. Deep within the warrens of the Leviathan, a labyrinthian legend petrified to stone, foretold by soothsayers to have swallowed their world, kiu-fae distil soul essence from the ether into pungent morning dew on metal-meshed, cyborg blooms. Crystals cluster in cyborg floral beds, absorbing distilled souls made by the kiu, forming colorful shards used in android cores.

A kiu-fairy named Posy from The Tin Princess.

Sherbet-hued, gold-fringed spectacles are penned with the provocative whim, “Call Me!” A feline ‘catcall’ figure extends, stretching languidly into the curve of gilded-rim glasses, as their fae, Posy, blows a blush bubble of Sweet Gum, a charmed, magic eight-ball treat that answers the question of the chewer. The fates figure the future here—the occurrence of a clandestine affair between one frivolous fae, Posy, and the viewer who catches her sunny sunflower-eye—to be a quizzical, “MAYBE”—an elusive ‘just might’.
